LinkMiners connects the mining industry with technology solutions through a Generative AI assistant on AWS
A WhatsApp assistant that turns an operational problem described in natural language into concrete solutions from specialized suppliers, available 24 hours a day.
LinkMiners is a source of knowledge for the mining industry: it helps companies in the sector solve their operational needs by identifying solutions from suppliers around the world. Together with Caleidos, AWS Partner, it developed a Generative AI conversational assistant on Amazon Bedrock that acts as a digital consultant: it allows mining professionals to describe their operational challenges in natural language and instantly receive recommendations for solutions from suppliers registered on the platform.
The challenge
The mining industry faces constant operational challenges, which drive continuous improvement focused on greater efficiency, safety, cost reduction and sustainability in its operations. However, companies do not always know the solutions available on the market. Traditionally, identifying the right solution and the right supplier requires a manual search through trade fairs, in-house research or personal contacts: a slow process in which many improvement opportunities are lost due to the lack of connection between the need and the offering available globally. LinkMiners, whose purpose is to drive the future of mining by generating knowledge and opportunities for mining companies and suppliers in the sector, was looking for a channel capable of closing that gap, without forcing users to browse catalogs or know in advance what to look for. The challenge was to transform an operational need described in natural language into relevant and actionable recommendations quickly (relying exclusively on the platform's knowledge of solutions and suppliers), which then become qualified leads for suppliers.
The solution
To meet this challenge, Caleidos designed and developed on AWS a Generative AI conversational assistant that runs on WhatsApp, the channel industry professionals already use every day. Through a guided conversation, the mining user describes their operational need, the assistant identifies similar needs in the platform's knowledge base, groups the available solutions into resolution strategies and presents concrete options (with the supplier's name and a direct link on linkminers.com); if the user requests it, the system emails them the supplier's contact details, generating a qualified lead. The design started from a core principle: recommendations had to be grounded exclusively in LinkMiners' own catalog and not in open internet sources, so that every answer would be relevant, verifiable and always connect with a real supplier on the platform. To achieve this, the solution follows a controlled conversational flow (not a free-response chatbot), in which the assistant retrieves relevant problems from the knowledge base and generates a limited number of strategies so as not to overwhelm the user with long lists. AWS was selected for its ability to offer a secure, scalable, production-ready Generative AI platform, with no need to manage infrastructure. On Amazon Bedrock, Caleidos incorporated managed foundation models for natural language understanding, generation of resolution strategies and semantic search over the catalog of mining problems, integrating these capabilities under a serverless architecture that scales with demand, responds with low latency and runs at costs aligned with actual usage. The solution was complemented with an access governance model based on authorized users and a data onboarding process that keeps the catalog of problems, solutions and suppliers always up to date. As part of the design, Caleidos comparatively evaluated different models available on the platform and selected the one that offered the best balance of quality, latency and cost for a guided conversation with multiple interactions per turn, delivering a robust, traceable solution ready to scale to new volumes and use cases.
